Save chat messages
How to save chat messages as a record
A text from your manager, a Messenger conversation, an Instagram DM: sometimes part of what happened is already written down. Save a copy you can find later, with enough of the conversation to explain it. You can do this before deciding whether to talk to anyone.
Keep what came before and after
Find the exchange you want to keep, then include the messages that led up to it and the replies afterward, including your own. Keep names or account handles, dates, and timestamps visible. A single message can be hard to understand without the question it answered. If the conversation continued by phone or in person, add a separate note in your own words.
Apple Messages: export a CSV with iMazing
Kirokune reads Apple Messages conversations exported as CSV by iMazing, a paid third-party tool for Mac and Windows with a limited trial. Connect your iPhone to your computer, follow iMazing's pairing and backup prompts, then open Messages and select the conversation. Choose CSV from Export and keep the header row, sender information, message text, and dates. Include the surrounding exchange when choosing a date range. Save the CSV on your computer and transfer a copy to Files on your iPhone. This export happens in iMazing, not in an iPhone CSV menu.
Messenger and Instagram: request your messages
In Facebook or Instagram settings, open Accounts Center and look for the option to export or download your information. Choose the relevant account, the Messages category, and a date range that covers the exchange and its context. Request JSON for Kirokune; HTML is for browsing and cannot be imported through this chat flow. Download the archive when Meta says it is ready. Menu wording can vary, so use the official help links below if your screen differs.
Check encrypted Messenger history separately
If your download is missing part of a Messenger conversation, check Meta's separate instructions for downloading end-to-end encrypted chats from secure storage. Follow the verification or recovery prompts shown for your account. Check the resulting files against the conversation you can still see. Keep this download even if Kirokune cannot read its structure; support for an ordinary conversation JSON does not mean every encrypted-history download is compatible.
Unzip the Meta download before importing
Extract the ZIP and find the folder for the conversation you need. For Messenger or Instagram, select a message_*.json file, such as message_1.json. Kirokune's file picker does not import the whole ZIP. A long conversation may be split across several files, so check the other numbered files for the dates you need. Photos, videos, voice messages, and screenshots are not automatically added by this text import; keep them separately.
Check your copy and keep the original
Open the exported conversation and compare a few messages with the chat: who sent them, what they say, and when they were sent. Watch for missing dates, unexpected times, or gaps. Keep the original CSV or ZIP unchanged, with an independent copy somewhere you control. Make any notes or redactions on a separate copy, and check what it contains before sharing it.
Bring a file into Kirokune
In Kirokune's chat import, choose the service and select its export file from Files. Check the detected format, message count, and date range, then give the record a title and save it. Kirokune does not connect to your chat accounts. It retains the selected file's whole original text alongside the messages it can display, so choose the file's scope before importing. The aim is to keep what happened in order so you can explain it. Kirokune is available on the App Store.
What Kirokune does
Kirokune helps you note an incident in your own words, organize it later, and decide what you want to do next. It does not diagnose, decide what happened, or give legal advice.
